This is one of the most popular and easy trek in Manali. On this trek you experience both the Kullu-Manali valleys and the Lahaul- spiti valleys. Kullu and Lahaul are separated by the Rohtang Pass and Hampta Pass. The Valleys are very different, with kullu -Manali having lush green forest cover due to the monsoon season. The Lahaul-Spiti Valleys, on the other hand, are in the rain shadow and have very little vegetation. The partial trans Himalayan barrenness of the Lahaul is truly spectacular. The route follows Gaddi shepherd trails across the summer grazing pastures. The river crossing is interestin, but care must be taken. Baralacha La is a double pass. it marks the divide between the Himalayas and the Lahaul Range, as well as the Himalayas and the Baralacha Range that extends north to Zanskar. |
