Thousands of Sikh pilgrims trek this trek route each year, while the Valley of the Flowers has has been an attraction for botanists worldwide ever since it was discovered in 1931. The trail to the Valley of flowers branches off the main pilgrim trails just beyond Ghangaria. Camping in the national park is not permitted, So each night you need to return to Ghangaria.
While the well defined trails suit the novice trekker, acclimatization is major problem, particularly as most ascend to Hem Kund (4330m) within a day of leaving Govind Ghatt(1830m). Few pilgrims would return to Govind Ghatt without at least getting a mild case of altitude sickness.
